PEAQ Stick Readings Thursday May 23, 2013
It’s been a spring to remember (or forget) but time marches on. For those of you that are interested the first PEAQ Stick readings resulted in these results: In the Chatfield area alfalfa was 14 inches tall which relates to a RFV of 250. Stewartville was 15 inches or 245 RFV and Eyota was in the 15 – 17 inches tall or 245 – 230 RFV. You may want to harvest when a fresh cut sample RFV numbers are 15-20 points higher than the feed target to allow for harvest loss. Typically when alfalfa gets to be 22-24 inches tall, buds are likely to start to appear and dairymen might want to look for a harvest window. I know, good luck with that.
