On January 16th the USDA put out a press release stating some FSA offices will open for limited services. Highlighted information from the press release is below. We encourage you to read the press release in full.
Certain FSA offices will be open Thursday, January 17th, Friday, January 18th and Tuesday, January 22nd. The local offices to be open are Fillmore County (507-765-3892) and Olmsted County (507-282-6153). Mower, Wabasha and Winona counties are not currently listed as opening. Please note these are limited services, and the FSA offices will NOT be taking on new loans. They will be able to help with existing loans and “release proceeds from the sale of loan security by signing checks jointly payable to the FSA”. Offices will be able to process payments made on or before December 31st, 2018. They will also be working to send out 1099 tax documents before the IRS’s deadline. The press release further states “Additionally, farmers who have loan deadlines during the lapse in funding do not need to make payments until the government shutdown ends”. The MFP deadline for January 15th will be extended the number of days that the FSA offices were closed during the shutdown, once the shutdown ends.
Once again, please read the full press release. There are additional links in the press release where you may find more information as it is updated by the USDA. You may call these counties in regards to what you need help with, but keep in mind they will be busy fielding calls and trying to help as many producers as they can.
